LIGHT DANCE
Light Dance is the core of my work as an artist.
The art form, tools, and perceptual experiences explore concepts outside of conventional approaches to light and vision.
In Light Dance, sheets or rays of light are cast from my body to the surfaces of an otherwise dark room where light forms are visible.
As I move, the light forms light change in size, shape and speed, shaping our primal perceptions of space and time and provoking new concepts.

György Kepes Memorial
Light Dance Performance
Walking into the structure he built as an “optic” to shape light, Riskin delineates a sequence of “spaces” around his body for the György Kepes memorial service, MIT Kresge Auditorium, 2002.
Red Circles
Riskin visualizes the changing relationship of his body and space with 50 projected circles.
Mirrored Suit
Performing in a collimated light beam, Riskin manipulates reflections throughout the theater.
Blue Laser Plane
Riskin’s body reveals the perceptual spacetime transformations effected by the sheet of light from his back.
Circle Study
Riskin explores depth perception with circles of light that expand and contract.
Ikaria hologram performance
At the 2002 Sky Art Conference in Ikaria, Greece, Riskin created a holographic window through which virtual rings of light were seen flanking his body.

Stickman
1989 performance with the artist’s light projectors mounted on arms and legs.
Cone Costume
